In 1986, a group of volunteers gathered to address an alarming problem in Palm Beach County: a large number of young women were showing up to deliver their babies – without any prenatal care.

They formed an organization with just a few employees to heighten awareness and help pregnant women identify and access needed services.

Thirty years later, Healthy Mother Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County has become the leading local agency in preparing pregnant women for the most important role in their life – that of a mother to her child.

With 60 employees, we engage and supports women throughout their pregnancy – from initiating prenatal care to educating families about nutrition and early childhood.

Our impact has been astounding:

  • More than 70% of women now access prenatal care in Palm Beach County.
  • The number of teen pregnancies is down by 75% from 25 years ago (1991).
  • The infant mortality rate is less than 5% -- down 53% from 25 years ago (1991).

Recently, some of HMHB’s supporters, founders and board members expressed why they have backed our agency over the years and how they believe we’ve worked to fulfill our goal of assuring that every child in Palm Beach County is born healthy, safe, and strong.
